Director’s Cut Audiobooks:
Oh My Soul: Encountering God in Honest, Unconventional (and Sometimes Messy) Prayer
Upside Down: Understanding and Supporting Attachment in Adoptive & Foster Families
Candid monthly Q&As, no jive:
November 2024: homemade tortillas, when grown up kids don’t talk to, convincing the Church to gather, & what we see as we look ahead to the next four years
October 2024: Studying the scripture in the original languages, thoughts on “NAR,” and we setting ourselves apart but still loving people who aren’t following Jesus
September 2024: simplicity in homesteading/homekeeping, my attempt at home canning, staying connected with grown children, how books affect how we communicate, embarrassing conflicts in public, and discerning boundaries with “unbelieving believers”
August 2024: foraging for herbs, praying steadfastly for lost loved ones, dealing with messy kids without losing our ever-loving minds, and addressing narcissism, celebrity culture, the critical spirit, and related issues in the Church
July 2024: all about vacations and time management.
June 2024: protecting gardens, entertaining chickens, favorite products from Azure Standard, Vin’s tortilla recipe, best chores for misbehaving kids, orphan lambs and thoughts on God calling us sheep, re-baptism, the Passion Translation, and thoughts on losing fire.
May 2024: Biggest pet peeve as a writer, summer days in Alaska, lessons learned in raising quail, reconciling corrupt leaders with Romans 13, and sensitively confronting husbands about trouble spots in marriages.
April 2024: Part 1 is about food prices, storage, and making the food budget stretch further (and how poultry help that), dogwood trees, kids and self-defense, finding peace when dealing with people/events out of our control, and how I would respond differently today to a difficult situation in Risk the Ocean. Part 2 is a gentle (and hopefully encouraging) discussion on end times.
March 2024: the toughest part of raising chickens and quail, my dad and drag racing, best advice from a trusted medical doctor/professional about kids, how Christians should help (and receive help) in a way that is pleasing to God, acclimating to new churches, belonging with church families, and some contrasts between “big” church and home church
February 2024: winter basement gardening, favorite healthy desserts, motivating kids to do homeschool work, hilarious and horrifying moments as a mom, boundaries and emotional support for kids who are making hard choices, the Mandela Effect, praying for wicked leaders, and women in leadership and ministry — this is the whopper that takes up the last 18 minutes or so
January 2024: Favorite breakfast recipes, raising (and eating) chickens, time management, dealing with loved ones who are walking in disobedience, navigating changes with big kids, sibling relationships, and thoughts on current prophecies/predictions about dire events, and go-to scriptures for countering fear
December 2023: Christmas memories, funny (and slightly scandalous) cat stories, kids and snow and winter, encouraging teens, balancing information overload while stewarding our health, and revival and the end times
November 2023: current weather in Alaska, exercise, graduating homeschooled kids, inexpensive homemade Christmas gifts, church versus online community, and holding kids accountable for chores
October 2023: books kids should read before age 10, observing the Sabbath, using castor oil, kids having a “saving knowledge” of the Lord by a certain age, lots of questions about trusting people, and what it would look like if the Church actually obeyed God in boldness
September 2023: This was a whopper, so part one is here (bookish nerdiness, thoughts on heaven, loving our kids in the midst of correction, and physical & emotional intimacy in marriage), and part two is here (spiritual warfare, healing, deliverance, authority, and prayer).
August 2023: Easy meals and not-so-easy restrictions, dealing with church wounds, worshiping in spirit and truth, miraculous healings, and supporting our husbands...and yeah, all the important stuff is in there.
July 2023: Fruit and discerning real Christians from imposters, launching adult kids, miracles and obeying the Holy Spirit, hard and happy things about adoption, and what parenting has taught me about myself
June 2023: Dealing with pain in forgiveness, sin and people who try to justify it, idolatry vs surrender, “coincidences,” and balance in full seasons. I may or may not have ignored Vin’s question this month…
May 2023: Chocolate, knitting vs. crochet, parenting whiny kids and parental authority, apocalyptic discussion and conjecture, moose incidents, how Vin and I schedule priorities, and why I briefly wore an eyepatch in 2020.
April 2023: Gardening plans and other unrealistic ambitions for spring, a look at a confusing Bible verse and suffering, and a little discussion on Judas, sin, and forgiveness
March 2023: Hilarious and confounding questions from Vince, anthropomorphic characters (and what that means), top 5 books that strengthened my faith, how we share the love of Christ without capitulating to a culture that opposes it, and telling the difference between conviction and condemnation
February 2023: Pros and cons to Alaska living, prepping, feelings and forgiveness, defining Church and what it should look like, and parenting teens with grace as we gradually learn to let go
January 2023: What we’ve learned so far with quail and chickens, Seasonal Affective Disorder in Alaska, favorite books, how I read the Bible, how we handle the current societal and moral divide, and big crazy dreams for the future
December 2022: All the Christmas stuff! Plus God’s faithfulness and our faithfulness, and our authority in Christ
November 2022: Thoughts on our pets going to heaven with us, consequences and kids, and handling duplicitous people who claim to be Christian
October 2022: The state of the world and how we’re talking about it with our kids, the cultural attack on women, loving out of obligation, what happened after we bought the new coop and how God overdelivered, surrender and dying to self, 1 Corinthians 15, and how God overdelivers on that, too
